Samsung Electronics produces a wide range of products including televisions, home appliances, and monitors. The serial number format differs by product category, so it's important to use the correct decoder for your device type.
Samsung TVs and monitors (15-character serial): The year of manufacture is encoded at character position 8, and the month at position 9. These use letter and number codes specific to Samsung's system. Some older Samsung TVs use an 11-character format, in which the year and month appear at positions 4 and 5.
Samsung home appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, ranges): Samsung appliances also use a letter-based encoding, with year and month codes embedded at defined positions in the serial string. The decoder handles both formats automatically based on your serial length and structure.
Samsung uses a 20-year repeating cycle for some year codes, which means a single code can represent two possible manufacture years. When two years are shown, appliance condition and model generation help confirm the correct one.
Using the model number instead of the serial number. On the back of Samsung TVs and appliances, both are printed on the same label. The model number describes the product (e.g., QN65QN90CAFXZA); the serial number is unique to your specific unit and contains the manufacture date. Copy from the line labeled "Serial No." or "S/N."
Choosing the wrong product category. Samsung TVs and Samsung appliances use different decoders in this tool. If you own a Samsung refrigerator or washer, use the Appliances tab. For a Samsung TV or monitor, select the Electronics tab.
Decade ambiguity. Samsung's 20-year cycle means some year codes can map to two possible years. For older TVs, the earlier year is almost always correct; for appliances purchased recently, the later year is more likely.
