Find the approximate manufacture year of your Panasonic TV or home theater equipment from its serial number.
Select Panasonic in the Electronics tab and enter your serial number for a manufacture year estimate.
⚡ Open Panasonic DecoderPanasonic equipment typically displays the model and serial data tag on a manufacturer rating plate. Look for a label that lists "Model" and "Serial" and check common locations by product type: inside doors, behind access panels, on the back panel, or near the compressor / condenser area.
Panasonic serial numbers encode the manufacture year in the first character, which represents the last digit of the year. The second character encodes a factory or production-line code that may correspond to the production month on some product lines, though the exact mapping varies by product category and region.
For example, a serial beginning with 4B has a year digit of 4, which maps to 2014 or 2024. The second character B is a factory or month identifier whose precise meaning depends on the specific Panasonic product series.
Because only the last digit of the year is encoded, some decade ambiguity is expected. A year digit of 4 is equally consistent with a 2014 plasma TV and a 2024 OLED — the TV's technology and model series are the clearest indicators of the correct decade. Panasonic Viera plasma TVs were discontinued in 2014, so serials beginning with 4 on a plasma set almost certainly indicate 2014, not 2024.
Decade ambiguity. Like most brands that encode only the last digit of the year, Panasonic serials require context to determine the full year. Check the TV's display technology (plasma, LCD, OLED) and model series — Panasonic's plasma lineup ended in 2014, while OLED and LED TVs continue to the present day.
Regional format differences. Panasonic sells products globally and uses different model and serial number schemes in Japan, North America, and Europe. If the first character is a letter rather than a digit, or the serial does not match the expected pattern, use the Smart Lookup section to research the product by model number.
Entering the model number instead of the serial number. Panasonic model numbers typically follow a pattern like TC-65HX750 or TX-65JZ2000. These are product identifiers, not serial numbers. The serial number is the unique alphanumeric code on the same label.
